Tiny Tweaks Lead To Big Changes _ A powerful reminder about body language

The amount of times I have had the chance to present or facilitate to groups and when mentioning posture and presence almost every time I see across the complete group people adjusting themselves in their seats. The transformation before my eyes is amazing and often due to knowing I am about to mention posture, body language, and presence I have already adjusted myself. Immediately I feel better at what I am doing and it always feels to me the group in front of me is paying more attention. Its like we have all tuned it. The reward is or feels tangible and immediate.=

This TED talk by Amy Cuddy, Social Psychologist I highly recommend if you have an interest in how we influence others and others influence us, but probably more profound is how we might be influencing ourselves.

‘Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how “power posing” — standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident — can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.’

The great quote here that resonated with me was, “Tiny tweaks lead to big changes.”

Often I am asked about how to make changes stick, how to become a better performer, how to create improved habits or eliminate bad habits. This talk by Amy is a way to understand some of the science and practical experiences which anyone can apply.
